As I was writing my review, I kept drifting off into a just a gush of words about everything and I just thought it would be better to separate my ‘rant’ from my review so as not give anyone spoilers and cut down the length of my review, because if I didn’t, the year would be over once you finished reading.

An accurate description of me whilst reading this whole book:
  • Let’s start with the fact that I didn’t realise how much I missed my Shadowhunters until I read this. I bought the book in New York and it’s a signed copy (so I was absolutely over the moon about that) and then I started reading and all the memories and feels from TID and TMI started flooding back and CC why are you just so amazing at making me feel all this things and make me talk in sentences that are much too long and have a bad grammar with a lot of caps and exclamation marks.
  • I can’t believe how funny the book was. Honestly, I must have laughed every chapter. Cassandra just writes humour with such ease and I love how the dialogue is so witty. Even Mark, who had lost his grip on ‘humanity’ or ‘shadowhunter ettiquette’ if you will and just made small comments that I found so funny.
  • “We're late," she said, "The show is supposed to start in ten minutes. If some people hadn't decided that 'semiformal' meant 'seminaked'-" "Why are you calling me 'some people'?" Mark inquired. "I am only one person.” Mark you are just so precious.
  • Moving on, my biggest pet peeve was the communication between characters. WHY DIDN’T ANYONE TALK TO EACH OTHER? EVER!!! Everything just kept going wrong and it was so annoying because it could have been prevented if Julian and Emma just took a moment to talk, or they thought maybe it would be a good idea to just voice their thoughts. It was just so frustrating.
  • Christina Rosales. What a queen. She was just such a likeable character and I felt such sympathy for her. "But I like the Hulk. I would like to heal his broken heart." What a jem (at first I unintentionally spelt it with the j and then only realised after i proof read it but oh well, it fits) She is probably my favourite female character alongside Tessa and I’ve only read one book about her. I wanna know more about her and Perfect Diego. Personally, I feel like there is something off about him but maybe he is just as perfect as everyone kept saying so who knows.
  • Also, Christina and Mark!! Mark and Kieran!! i can’t decide who i want to be together more but I ship both. I really want to know more about Kieran too, like who is h3, why, what, where and how. I want more of him and Mark’s time together and what they did and just everything.
  • I guess I just really want to know more about the Faerie, particularly the Wild Hunt.
  • And the scene where Christina cut Mark's hair! I just love Cassandra Clare.
  • Julian Julian Julian. I'm so in love. The way he cared for his siblings and just worried about them so much was so SWOON. I just wanted to hug him better because he didn't think he was doing enough when he did more than enough. I totally love CC for making his character. He just has such a beautiful heart and I'm just so confused how can think all these feelings for fictional characters. The YA world will never know. I feel like Lady Midnight definitely has the best characters so far. All of them I just love. “I love you, Julian Blackthorn. I love you more than starlight.”  - Couldn't have said it better myself.
  • And what about Emma and Julian on the beach??? I hated it. I really did. I thought it was just such a cheap excuse and rushed and against their character. I thought they were smart and mature and intelligent and knew better than to just do that when they knew someone could have seen them. Even the sand? Wouldn't it get in weird places, and Emma had just almost drowned too. Everything was just wrong and the circumstances were thrown off.
  • Also what the hell is that birth control rune? I felt like Clary could have created something a lot better than I rune that prevents pregnancy. Something badass at least, rather than just convenient. I was cringing.
  • OMG AND KIT IS A FREAKING HERONDALE- my heart still whimpers at the sound of the name. I’m so excited. Beyond excited actually. Ecstatic. Over the moon. Elated. I was like no no no no no yes yes yes yes yes why are my emotions conflicting all the time yes yes yes. And then when Tessa and Jem arrived, my heart may have leaped from my chest and I needed to take a two minute break to recuperate and spam my friend about my emotions. I still haven’t received from that epilogue.
  • The following is a depiction of me at during that chapter:
  • Moving on, how is this forbidden parabatai thing going to turn out if they’ll die by having their marks stripped or they’ll be excommunicated. I feel like it would be too convenient for an easy way out and everything would have been a waste of time if they could just simply say a spell or something like that. I want drama and demise and something bad to happen. I’m also sooooo excited to learn about Annabel Blackthorn. Obviously she is going to appear in the sequel and I’m curious as to how it will shake things up.
  • On the subject of Malcolm, there was never really a hint of this dark, determined side that made him so destructive for love in any of the other shadow hunter books and I felt like it wasn’t explored enough in the book too. There was something empty about it too, even the death of Emma’s parents. It felt careless. I hated that, I felt like Cassandra perhaps focused a little too much on everything and lost focus during the play. Don’t get me wrong, I definitely want to read about all the steamy and angsty romance but the whole purpose and drive for the plot was just ‘bleh’.
  • THE ENDING - by far my favourite moment when Mark and Emma decide to do the unthinkable, but I see how it can potentially ruin the story line as it will harm so many relationships and possibly bring the novel into a bigger cliche. Everyone is so annoyed by it, am I the only one who is actually excited!! Like, right after I read it I just couldn’t stop beaming and thinking how good Lord of Shadows was gonna be.
  • He held out a hand to her, half-beckoning, half-offering. "Why lie?" he said.”  I am just so excited, May, could you possibly come any quicker?

Lady Midnight Book Review

Rating: ✭
✭✭✭ (4.5)

Title: Lady Midnight
Author: Cassandra Clare
Genre: YA, Fantasy, Fiction, Romance
Publication: 8 March 2016
Format: Hardcover, 698 pages
Source: Own copy

"There was beauty in the idea of freedom, but it was an illusion. Every human heart as chained by love."
- page 627.

When the dead bodies of both humans and faeries start accumulating, each with the same strange markings her parents were found murdered with, Emma Carstairs starts to investigate.
Set on the sandy shores of Los Angeles, Emma, with the help of her Shadowhunter friends, unravels the mystery of her parent’s murder which has been her fighting cause her whole life. She is also fighting for Mark, her parabatai Julian Blackthorn’s older brother who is being held captive by the Faerie.
Along this hunt to uncover the reason behind the deaths, Emma reveals more secrets. Who really killed her parents? What has Julian been hiding? Why are parabatai forbidden to fall in love?

Lady Midnight is the first instalment in the highly anticipated trilogy, The Dark Artifices, by Cassandra Clare. I was so eager to be a part of the Shadow world again and the demon hunting, plot twists and witty humour that came with it. Cassandra Clare didn’t let me down and by the end of the novel I just wanted more, more, more.

It is great that Lady Midnight can be read without having to have read the other Shadowhunter series however I recommend it because they are great books and it enhances the experience of Lady Midnight (as well as bring back all the TMI and TID feels).
Right away, I noticed improvements in Cassandra Clare’s writing compared to her other novels. The book was a lot more grounded and fleshed out. Each character was given a voice and the plot flowed smoothly. Also, much to my enjoyment, Clare was still able to make me laugh even with such a deep story.
Lady Midnight delves deeper into the Shadowhunter world and touches on more mature and darker subjects. Mental illness and sexuality is explored amongst the characters. Ty, one of the Blackthorn siblings, struggles with a mental disorder and there is even a bisexual character. The audience is also introduced to new aspects too, such as The Scholomance, an elite shadowhunter school, and the law against Parabatai falling in love.

The plot was definitely well thought out and carefully planned. It had the perfect balance between romance, character development and plot action but I do think that it was the downfall of the novel. It lacked that ‘special something’ and I felt that at times it dragged. The main plot was a murder mystery, dealing with why Emma’s parents died the way they did but I felt it was empty and didn’t really give any defined answers. However, the plot never lost focus on the characters and I believe that this is what really made the book.

Clare has written by far the most interesting and developed characters in all of the Shadowhunter universe. Julian and Emma were nothing special in a good way, unlike Jace and Clary or Tessa, they were just normal shadow hunters with no special abilities other than a big dilemma and a big family. There was also role reversal between the two MC’s. Usually Cassie has the boys cracking jokes but this time it was Emma and Julian was the sensitive one. Emma was a bad ass heroine but I still had trouble liking and relating to her, i felt she was too ignorant and stubborn and just in-your-face, contrary, I loved Christina Rosales, an 18 year old residing in the LA institute to observe the difference between their Shadowhunter culture and Mexico’s. The fact she followed all the rules really appealed to me, especially in the Shadowhunter world where everyone makes such rash decisions and acts impulsively. Another example of the interesting and unique cast of Lady Midnight.

Julian was definitely by far my favourite character. I adored how his character was different to most of Cassandra’s other male characters who were often sarcastic and the bad-boy type (but don’t get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with those types). Julian had so much responsibility given to him when he was just 12; he is in charge of caring for all his siblings (Mark, Tiberius, Livia, Drusilla and Octavian) and his uncle Arthur, the Los Angeles Institiute, Emma as well as himself. He is so admirable and there is something about his personality and it's mix between tenderness and harshness that was so appealing and enticing, I just wanted more of Julian.

“…everyone who lives under this roof, whether they are bound by blood or not, we are tied together by an invisible net of love and duty and loyalty and honour. That is what it means to be a Shadowhunter.”
The family dynamic between the Blackthorn’s was also a big aspect of this novel and I loved the relationship that they all had with each other. Each one of them complemented the other and protected the other. They even made for extremely funny moments, especially when Mark, unaccustomed to looking after all of them, is left with them alone.

Cassandra has set up the novel well for a sequel and leaves people wondering why Emma’s iratze so powerful when she healed Julian? How will Julian’s and Emma’s relationship turn out? Are we going to learn more about Kieran and Marks time in the hunt?
I definitely recommend Lady Midnight to all people who love fantasy and are fans of the Shadowhunter chronicles or Cassandra Clare’s writing. Lady Midnight intertwines mystery, action, fantasy, romance and humour into a thrilling novel that I thoroughly enjoyed and many others will too. I'm giving it 4.5 stars, 4 for the novel and the extra .5 because I'm bias towards anything with my beloved Shadowhunters.

Here is a compilation of the some of the best quotes from Cassandra Clare's Clockwork Princess. Some quotes may contain spoilers, so beware all the spoilerphobes.

Small note: I have the Walker Books paperback edition with 576 pages; pages may differ between copies although chapters are the same.

"I could use a partner-someone to spar with."
"So could I," said Will. "But I need someone who can keep up with me, not some sickly creature that looks as if he's doddering off to the grave. Although I suppose you might be useful for target practice."
- Will Herondale, Jem Carstairs, Prologue, Page 12-13

"You don't think I can fight," Tessa said, drawing back and matching his silvery gaze with her own. "Because I'm a girl."
"I don't think you can fight because you're wearing a wedding dress," said Jem. "For what it's worth, I don't think Will could fight in that dress either."
"Perhaps not," said Will, who had ears like a bat's. "But I would make a radiant bride."
- Tessa Gray, Jem Carstairs and Will Herondale, Chapter 2, Page 37

"Sometimes one must choose whether to be kind or honourable," he said. "Sometimes one cannot be both."
- Will Herondale, Chapter 3, Page 70

"You know that feeling," she said, "When you are reading a book, and you know that it is going to be a tragedy; you can feel the cold and darkness coming, see the net drawing close around the characters who live and breathe on the pages. But you are tied to the story as if being dragged behind a carriage, and you cannot let go or turn the course aside."
- Tessa Gray, Chapter 3, Page 70

"So you are dying for love, then," Will said finally, his voice sounding constricted to his own ears.
"Dying a little faster for love. And there are worse things to die for."
- Will Herondale and Jem Carstairs, Chapter 4, Page 82-83

"Nicely done, brother," said Gabriel from the bed, blinking sleepy green eyes at Gideon.
Gideon threw a scone at him.
- Gabriel Lightwood, Chapter 4, Page 93

Heroes endure because we need them. Not for their own sakes.
- Tessa Herondale, Chapter 4, Page 98

The good suffer, the evil flourish, and all this is mortal passes away.
- Magnus Bane, Chapter 5, Page 118

Men may be stronger, but it is women who endure.
- Tessa Gray, Chapter 5, Page 120

A house divided against itself cannot stand.
- Tessa Gray, Chapter 5, Page 121

Most people are lucky to have even one great love in their life. You have found two.
- Woolsey Scott, Chapter 5, Page 121

"Every heart has its own melody," he said. "You know mine."
- Jem Carstairs, Chapter 8, Page 189

Our hearts, they need a mirror, Tessa. We see our better selves in the eyes of those who love us. And there is beauty that brevity alone provides.
- Jem Carstairs, Chapter 8, Page 189

Magnus looked at him silently for a long moment. "Does he know you are in love with Tessa?"
- Magnus Bane, Chapter 10, Page 235

"Will. You asked me for my wisdom, as someone who has lived many lifetimes and buried many loves. I can tell you that the end of a life is the sum of the love that was lived in it, that whatever you think you have sworn, being here at the end of Jem's life is jot what is important. It was being there for every other moment. Since you met him, you have never left him and never not loved him. That is what matters.
- Magnus Bane, Chapter 10, Page 235

You endure what is unbearable, and you bear it. That is all.
- Magnus Bane, Chapter 10, Page 236

Forever and ever, my brother, hail and farewell.
Will began to straighten up, to turn away from the bed. And as he did, he felt something warp tightly around his wrist. He glanced down and saw Jem's hand bracketing his own. For a moment he was too shocked to do anything but stare.
"I am not dead yet, Sill," Jem said in a soft voice, thin but as strong as wire. "What did Magnus mean by asking you if I knew you were in love with Tessa?"
- Jem Carstairs, Chapter 10, Page 237

"If there is a life after this one," he said, let me meet you in it, James Carstairs."
- Will Herondale, Chapter 11, Page 244-245

"And you should be out and about in your nightgown. There are Lightwoods wandering these halls."
- Will Herondale, Chapter 11, Page 247

"A very magnanimous statement, Gideon," said Magnus.
"I'm Gabriel."
Magnus waved a hand. "All Lightwoods look the same to me."
- Magnus Bane, Chapter 11, Page 260

"You say we are born again. I say that there is a river that divides the dead and the living. What I do know is that if we are born again, I will meet you in another life, and if there is a river, you will wait on the shores for me to come to you, so that we can cross together."
- Will Herondale, Chapter 15, Page 32

Life was an uncertain thing, and there were some moments one wished to remember, to imprint upon one's mind that the memory might be taken out later, like a flower pressed between the pages of a book, and admired and recollected anew.
- Sophie Collins, Chapter 17, Page 372-373

"You might want to get up," he said. "Everyone will be here quite soon to rescue you, and you may prefer to have your clothes on when they arrive."
- Magnus Bane, Chapter 20, Page 432

Choosing love or war: both are brave choices, in their own ways.
- Cecily Herondale, Chapter 22, Page 475

Do not seek revenge and call it justice.
- Tessa Gray, Chapter 18, Page 384

I am catastrophically in love with you.
- Will Herondale, Chapter 19, Page 412

"There are so many worse things than death," he said. "Not to be loved or not to be able to love: that is worse."
- Will Herondale, Chapter 19, Page 413

"How could I say farewell," he said, "to you?"
Will let the knife fall from his hand. It stuck, point-down, in the wood of the floor. "As Shadowhunters do? Ave atque vale. And forever, brother, hail and farewell.
But those are the words of death. Catullus spoke them over his brother's grave, did he not? Multas per gentes et multa per aequira vectus advenio has miseras, frater, ad inferias-"
Will knew the words. Through many waters borne, brother, I am come to thy sad grave, that I may give these last gifts to the dead. Forever and ever, brother, hail. Forever and ever, farewell.
- Jem Carstairs and Will Herondale, Chapter 23, Page 502

"Wo men shi sheng si ji jiao," said Will, and he saw Jem's eyes widen, fractionally, and the spark of amusement inside them. "Go in peace, James Carstairs."
- Will Herondale, Chapter 23, Page 506

Tess, Tess, Tessa.
Was there ever a more beautiful sound than your name? To speak it aloud makes my heart ring like a bell. Strange to imagine that, isn’t it – a heart ringing – but when you touch me that is what it is like: as if my heart is ringing in my chest and the sound shivers down my veins and splinters my bones with joy.
Why have I written these words in this book? Because of you. You taught me to love this book where I had scorned it. When I read it for the second time, with an open mind and heart, I felt the most complete despair and envy of Sydney Carton. Yes, Sydney, for even if he had no hope that the woman he loved would love him, at least he could tell her of his love. At least he could do something to prove his passion, even if that thing was to die.
I would have chosen death for a chance to tell you the truth, Tessa, if I could have been assured that death would be my own. And that is why I envied Sydney, for he was free.
And now at last I am free, and I can finally tell you, without fear of danger to you, all that I feel in my heart.
You are not the last dream of my soul.
You are the first dream, the only dream I ever was unable to stop myself from dreaming. You are the first dream of my soul, and from that dream I hope will come all other dreams, a lifetime’s worth.
                                    With hope at last,
                                           Will Herondale
- Will Herondale, Chapter 24, Page 522-523

"Bright star," Magnus said, and his eyes were thoughtful, as if he were remembering something, or someone. "Those of you who are mortal, you burn so fiercely. And you are fiercer than most, Will. I will not ever forget you."
- Magnus Bane, Chapter 24, Page 533

"Miss Cecily," she gasped, and then her eyes went to Will. She clapped her hand over her mouth, turned, and bolted back into the house.
"Oh, dear," said Tessa.
"I have that effect on women," Will said.
- Tessa Gray and Will Herondale, Chapter 24, Page 543

"And who is the gentleman?"
Will's grin widened. "Oh, him," he said. "This is Cecily's - friend, Mr.Gabriel Lightworm."
Gabriel, half in the act of stretching out his hand to greet Mr. herondale, froze in horror. "Lightwood," he sputtered. "Gabriel Lightwood-"
- Will Herondale and Mrs. Herondale, Chapter 24, Page 544

"The first one is the hardest," he said.
"The first?"
"The first one you love who dies," he said. "It gets easier after."
- Jem Carstairs and Tessa Gray, Epilogue, Page 553

For You Friday's

This novel is one of the multiple books that really got me into reading. It's an amazing fantasy novel full of angels, vampires, warlocks and werewolves so if you love draw-you-in don't-want-to-put-it-down fantasy, there is a fat chance that you'll love this.

City of Bones by Cassandra Clare

When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder― much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It's hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing―not even a smear of blood―to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy?

This is Clary's first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. It's also her first encounter with Jace, a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk. Within twenty-four hours Clary is pulled into Jace's world with a vengeance, when her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked by a demon. But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know...

City of Bones is very well written; Cassandra combines the perfect mix of romance, humour and action into a story of enchantment and serious fun. As well as this, all the characters are well composed, even the side characters, and I promise you will definitely come to love them if you read this novel. The best part of this book is the world building. This first novel introduces you the Shadowhunter world perfectly and as the story progresses, the world begins to develop into something that is so enticing you won't want to put the book down. I recommend City of Bones to all urban fantasy lovers and if you like (or most likely love) it, definitely go onto reading the rest of the series.

Have fun,
- Georgia

Clockwork Prince Quote Compendium

Here are my favourite quotes from Clockwork Prince by Cassandra Clare in a Quote Compendium, complete with page numbers and chapters. This may contain some spoilers.

Small note (about edition of the book): It is published by Walker Books and contains 496 pages. Pages in different editions will most likely be different but chapter won't.

Old Mol screeched with laughter. "Love potions? For Will 'erondale? 'Tain't my way to turn down payment, but any man who looks like you 'as got no need of love potions, and that's a fact."
"No," Will said, a little desperation in his voice."I was looking for the opposite, really - something that might put an end to being in love."
- Will Herondale, Old Mol, Prologue, Page 11

"Aloysius Starkweather is the most stubborn, hypocritical, obstinate, degenerate-" She broke off clearly fighting control of her temper. Tessa had never seen Charlotte's mouth so firmly set into a hard line.
"Would you like a thesaurus?" Will inquired.
- Charlotte Branwell, Will Herondale, Chapter 4, Page 75

"I shall charm him with such force that when I am done, he will be left lying limply on the ground, trying to remember his own name."
"The man's eighty-nine," muttered Jem. "He may well have that problem anyway."
- Will Herondale, Jem Carstairs, Chapter 4, Page 90

"They're not hideous." said Tessa.
Will blinked at her. "What?"
"Gideon and Gabriel," said Tessa. "They're really quite good-looking, not hideous at all."
"I spoke," said Will in sepulchral tones, "of the pitch-black inner depths of their souls."
Tessa snorted. "And what colour do you suppose the inner depths of your soul are, Will Herondale?"
"Mauve," said Will.
- Tessa Gray, Will Herondale, Chapter 4, Page 91

His beauty did not blaze like Will's did in fierce colours and repressed fire, but it had it's own muted perfection, the loveliness of snow falling against a silver-grey sky.
- Jem Carstairs, Chapter 6, Page 139

"But you lover her."
Will stared at him. "Of course I do," he said finally. "I had some time to think I would never love anyone, but I love her."
- Magnus Bane, Will Herondale, Chapter 6, Page 144

Jem is my great sin.
- Will Herondale, Chapter 6, Page 144

They say time heals all wounds, but that presumes the source of the grief is finite. Over.
- Will Herondale, Chapter 6, Page 155

If no one cares for you at all, do you even really exist.
- Will Herondale, Chapter 6, Page 156

"Did you just kiss me?" Will inquired.
Magnus made a split-second decision. "No."
- Will Herondale, Magnus Bane, Chapter 13, Page 321

"Ah," said a voice from the doorway, "having your annual everyone-thinks-Will-is-a-lunatic meeting, are you?"
"It's biannual," said Jem. "And no, this is not that meeting."
- Will Herondale, Jem Carstairs, Chapter 14, Page 329

Will has always been the brighter burning star, the one to catch attention - but Jem is the steady flame, unwavering and honest.
- Sophie Collins, Chapter 15, Page 358

Lies and secrets, Tessa, they are like cancer in the soul. They eat away what is good and leave only destruction behind.
- Aunt Harriet, Chapter 17, Page 395

It's always better to live the truth than to live a lie.
- Magnus Bane, Chapter 17, Page 413

"I cannot explain love,' he said. "I could not tell if I you loved you the first moment I saw you, or if it was the second or third or fourth. But I remember the first moment I looked at you walking toward me and I realised that somehow the rest of the world seemed to vanish when I was with you. That you were the centre of everything I did and felt and thought."
- Jem Carstairs, Chapter 18, Page 430

There is a force and strength in love.
- Jem Carstairs, Chapter 18, Page 430

You are home for me now.

Clockwork Princess Review

Rating: ✭✭✭✭✭

Title: Clockwork Princess
Author: Cassandra Clare
Genre: Adventure, Fantasy, YA, Romance
Format: Paperback, 565
Publication: 2013
Source: Personal Copy

"Most people are lucky enough to have even one great love in their life. You have found two."
- Woolsey Scott, Chapter 5, 121

Lucky for me, I've found three. Clockwork Princess is the last book in beautiful The Infernal Devices trilogy by Cassandra Clare. This novel is about secrets, betrayal, love and sacrifice. Tessa prepares for her wedding but is disrupted by chaos in the Shadow and mundane world. The Lightwood boys encounter trouble of the demonic kind and they turn to the London Institute for help. To make matters worse, Mortmain is still after Tessa; the girl that both Jem and Will have devoted a piece of their heart's too.

Clockwork Princess was an amazing conclusion to The Infernal Devices. I enjoyed every single part of it. Cassandra Clare found a way to weave the stories and pasts of the characters into the page of the novel and make it easy to follow and understand. The wit and humour in this book never failed to impress me; I loved the bickering between Gabriel and Will throughout book. I'm a massive fan of how, when reading this book, I was able to understand things about the Shadowhunter world and The Mortal Instruments better as revelations surfaced. It was like figuring out who killed who in a CSI episode before the detectives do. Clockwork Princess is also a lot more emotionally driven and darker than the previous two books in the trilogy.

The only thing that really disappointed me about this book was the lack of action. The whole book was based on finding Mortmain only for him to be squashed like a bug in just a few pages at the end of the book. So to say, the chapters were patchy with action and needed a bit more to speed up the pace of the book. To make up for that, the plot was driven by character motives and not solely for convenience (a bookish pet peeve of mine). To address the ending, it finished on a bitter sweet note, if you did not know already. I thought it was heart breaking, beautiful and satisfying and served was it was meant to. All ties were severed cleanly, romantic entanglements were solved and all characters got their happy ending one way or another.

One of the main themes of this book is the measure of love (also the name of the last chapter), whether it be fraternal or romantic. Every character was given the lime light in this novel and through that they were all able to be developed remarkably well. Each of their stories and dilemmas melded well with the plot and a different side was able to be seen in each of them.I loved reading about them and the way they are constantly maturing and learning new things, especially the heroine, Tessa. The love triangle between Jem, Tessa and Will was probably one of my favourite elements of this book and if you read it, you will understand why. As a result of Cassandra's amazing character building, loving these characters was completely unavoidable and inevitable, all part of the wonderful reading experience that comes with reading The Infernal Devices trilogy.

I find it harder to write reviews for books I personally love so much. It's hard to turn piles of myriad thoughts and emotions into a few paragraphs of cohesive ideas. Its fair to say Clockwork Princess is unrivalled in its glory and perfectness. The book was overall amazing, even though it had its flaws. I whole heartily recommend this book - and series - for everyone who loves an adventure that explores the world of fantasy, love and humour.
Ave atque vale. Hail and farewell The Infernal Devices.

Clockwork Angel Quote Compendium

Here is a bunch of all quotes I found or enjoyed in Cassandra Clare's novel, Clockwork Angel. Attention All Spoilerphobes: Some quotes may contain spoilers.

Small Note: I have the Walker Books paperback edition with 482 pages; pages may differ between copies but all chapters are the same.

When you find a man you wish to marry, Tessa, remember this: You will know what kind of man he is not by the things he says, but by the things he does.
- Aunt Harriet, Chapter 3, Page 39

She shuddered. "Oh, no. I hate chocolate."
Will looked horrified. "What kind of monster could possibly hate chocolate?"
- Tessa Gray, Will Herondale, Chapter 4, Page 89

"One must always be careful of books," said Tessa, "and what's inside of them, for words have the power to change us."
- Tessa Gray, Chapter 4, Page 93

"Only the very weak-minded refuse to be influenced by literature and poetry," said Tessa, determined not to let him run wildly off with the conversation.

"Pulvis et umbra sumus. It's a line from Horace. 'We are dust and shadows.'

"You think she's pretty?" Will was surprised; Jem rarely opined on this sort of thing.

"Whatever you are physically," he said, "male or female, strong or weak, ill or healthy - all those things matter less than what your heart contains.
